Task Description: In groups of three or more you are to make a "song" and dance to go with music of your choice which demonstrates your knowledge of angles in a creative and entertaining way.

Complementary and Supplementary Angles

  • Two angles are called complementary angles if the sum of their degree measurements equals 90 degrees. One of the complementary angles is said to be the complement of the other.

Assessment Task: Angles House

Google Sketch-Up House design
Task Description: Using Google Sketch-Up design a house with the aim of including all the angles we have studied this unit. Including acute, right, obtuse, straight, reflex, revolution, complementary and supplementary angles. Angles need to be labelled and clearly shown. Marks will be given for creativity and presentation. Images should be saved and put into a Keynote presentation.

Your house should be emailed to your teacher. It will be graded in percent.

Angles in a triangle

Try this trick... to see how many degrees there are in a triangle.
  1. Take a piece of paper.
  2. Fold it to make a triangle. (It does not matter what shape, so long as the sides are nice and straight).
  3. Make the vertices of the triangle A, B, and C. (On the inside).
  4. Tear off the corners of the triangle.
  5. Place the three vertices, labelled A, B and C together... it does not matter how, so long as the vertices are touching.
  6. Make sure each of the side lines of the pieces are fitted together properly.
  7. What do you see?
  8. How does this tell us how many degrees there are inside a triangle?
  9. Make some different triangles, different in shape to your first. Repeat the above steps.
  10. Did you get the same result.
  11. How many degrees are there in a triangle?

Just for fun

  • Geometry Drawing Game (CoolMath,com)
  • Draw a variety of shapes using your "mathomat". Measure each interior angle. What did you notice? What did they add up to? Compare your answers for each different shape. Shade them in a nice colour. Try and come up with a rule for the number of degrees in polygons.
  • Be a brain: find the definition of a POLYGON... go on, impress your friends! :-)
